Kiln News – December 2022

Logo
We Made it a Year, Yay!
Believe it or not, 2022 was Urban Log Studios’ first full year in business, and boy has it been an adventure. More than anything, we would like to thank all of our customers that took a chance on us – both on our products and in the kiln. We really appreciate all the feedback and reviews, not only did this help us reach more people, but just as importantly, gave us the encouragement and confidence to keep this crazy business going. We started Urban Log Studios because we wanted to make kiln drying and woodworking available and accessible to everyone – it is the coolest thing ever that we have made it this far. Thank you all for your support and we can’t wait to see what next year brings!
Exciting News!
We were recently accepted as a member of the Urban Log Network! This nationwide organization is on the same mission we are, to keep urban lumber out of landfills, but they are going even further, by “by promoting the robust supply chain necessary to get the highest use product from these trees.” We are honored to be included in this network of companies and creators that are dedicated to the mission of urban wood utilization.
In the Kiln
Only 3 types of wood in the second run this month – cedar boards, some honking maple beams destined to become mantles as well as some maple live edge slabs, and box elder live edge slabs. These pretty pieces of wood will be coming out of the kiln within a week, then we will be ready to set up January’s run. We still have some space open so if you would like to get scheduled in or have any questions about the process, give us a shout at (425)312-3885 or email us anytime.
An Oldy but Goody
One of my favorite project of Andrew’s is this fantastic maple and walnut segmented salad bowl. This 16” bowl has a beautiful shape, and check out the spalted maple at the bottom – it looks like a freaking map! It was gifted to a relative for Christmas some years ago, and was brought out again for the holiday this year and I couldn’t resist getting some pictures.
Have questions about the kiln drying process, wood turning or any of our other services? Give us a call at (425)312-3885 or email us if you’d like more info. We would love to hear from you!
